Adventure-oriented families, couples, and solo travelers looking for a rugged, capable, and spacious SUV will appreciate the 2025 Toyota 4Runner. Toyota has given this beloved midsize SUV, now in its sixth generation, a fresh design, a Tacoma pickup truck platform, and a fuel-efficient hybrid model. At Keith Pierson Toyota in Jacksonville, Florida, we’re excited to introduce you to the 2025 4Runner and the exceptional features of its cargo and passenger space.
About the 2025 Toyota 4Runner
In 1984, Toyota introduced the first 4Runner SUV, thrilling off-road enthusiasts. It remains one of the most popular midsize two-row SUVs for its ruggedness, capability, and refined interior. You can get the 2025 4Runner in six trims, including several of the off-road-oriented TRD series.
Power and Performance
Under the hood of this mighty SUV, you’ll find a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an output of 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. If you choose the hybrid 4Runner, you get the same 2.4-liter engine pairing with a system Toyota calls the i-FORCE MAX. This version delivers 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The 4Runner comes with selectable part- or full-time four-wheel drive, with the TRD trims featuring an electronic locking rear differential. A properly equipped 2025 4Runner can tow 6,000 pounds.
Cargo Space
From what we know so far, there’ll be more cargo space inside the 2025 4Runner, as the length has increased to 194.8 inches from the 2024 version’s 190.2. Toyota has yet to release the exact cargo and passenger space dimensions, but we’ll update the information as soon as we learn more. The previous generation 4Runner had 9.0 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 46.3 behind the second, and 88.8 with both rows folded or tumbled down. Some sources expect a 5% or 10% increase in cargo space for 2025.
The 4Runner’s generous cargo volume compares favorably to other midsize SUVs, such as the Honda Pilot, which has 87.0 cubic feet of storage space, or the Ford Explorer, with 85.8. You’ll find many cup holders, cubby holes, and storage spaces throughout the interior of the 4Runner — its second row boasts a fold-down armrest with cup holders. There are also plenty of storage options in the doors and pockets behind the seats. The functional cargo area has several floor-mounted tie-downs and an optional net.
Passenger Space
The 4Runner comes with two rows of seats, with the option of a third if you need more passenger space. We know the hybrid version will have two rows of seats, as the back area will house the battery pack. The 4Runner’s two-row versions accommodate five people, while those with three rows can carry seven. The 2024 dimensions give the 4Runner ample space for the driver and front seat passenger and plenty of head, leg, and shoulder room for second-row occupants. The optional third-row seats are less spacious.
Although the 2025 4Runner’s interior cabin retains many of the design features of the previous generations, they become more upscale with each move up the trim levels. You can enjoy front seats with lumbar support or leather upholstery that are heated, SofTex-trimmed, and power-adjustable. In the highest trims, you’ll find heated second-row seats. Because the 2025 4Runner shares a platform with its cousin, the Tacoma pickup truck, their console and front cabin features are similar.
Interior Features and Layouts
The 4Runner’s second-row seats now have a tumble-forward design instead of folding flat. This feature makes it easy to open up the cargo area for carrying adventure gear, luggage, and the family dog.
Everyone in the family will appreciate the Toyota audio multimedia infotainment system, whether with the standard 8-inch touch screen or the optional 14-inch version. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration comes standard, while the new vertically mounted wireless charging pad is optional. A touch-screen-mounted USB port allows your front-seat passenger to charge their mobile devices, and those riding in the back will enjoy the rear climate-control system.
With the 2025 4Runner, you get the latest driver-assist package, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. Standard and available features of this bundle of safety systems include:
- Adaptive cruise control.
- A pre-collision warning with pedestrian, cyclist, and motorcycle detection.
- Automatic emergency braking.
- A lane mitigation system.
- Automatic high-beam headlights.
- Protective driving assist.
- The emergency driving stop system.
Versatility and Practicality
The 2025 4Runner is the perfect blend of off-road ruggedness with sophisticated features and technologies any urbanite will appreciate. Its flexible seating configurations mean it can carry seven people, open up loads of cargo space for transporting supplies, or allow your passengers to take a nap. It also has enough charging ports for everyone’s mobile devices.
You can power a small air compressor or other items with the cargo area’s 120-volt outlet. The off-road-ready Trailhunter trim has a built-in compressor to easily air up the tires once you return to asphalt after driving on challenging terrain or sand.
While competitors in the off-road SUV market, such as the Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco, are popular, the Toyota 4Runner stands out with its dependability, capability, and reputation for ruggedness. Nothing beats the Toyota 4Runner team’s cutting-edge research and development that adds value and trustworthiness to this newly designed SUV. However you use your 2025 Toyota 4Runner, you’ll have a reliable, versatile, capable, and sophisticated SUV that will last for years with proper maintenance.
