Performance

Toyota hasn’t released any information on the powertrain lineup for the 2024 Camry. Nonetheless, the sedan is expected to expand its hybrid offerings, which now account for only 16% of its total sales. Still, gas-powered engines should continue to make up a significant chunk of the lineup.

The hybrid engine of the current Camry will probably carry over as the 2024 model’s entry-level powertrain. This setup consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that combine for a total output of 208 horsepower. Mated to a continuously variable transmission, it provides more than enough power for daily driving.

The Camry may also receive a more powerful optional hybrid system to back up its wilder appearance, such as the turbocharged unit recently introduced on the Toyota Crown. Pairing a 2.4-liter turbo-four with one or two electric motors, this powertrain should be able to generate 340 to 366 horsepower. That’s considerably more than the 301 horsepower from the current model’s most potent engine, which is a 3.5-liter V-6.

Following the release of the performance-oriented GR (Gazoo Racing) Corolla, Toyota has been hinting that a GR Camry may be in the pipeline. If that’s true, the automaker will probably introduce the sporty variant on a new-generation Camry, such as the 2024 model. The turbo-three engine of the compact GR Corolla may seem like a stretch on the larger sedan, so perhaps an upgraded version of the 2.4-liter turbo-four from the aforementioned optional hybrid may be a better fit.
