Now, the automaker plans to test an all-new car sharing system that allows users to use their smartphones to lock and unlock doors, as well as start the cars. This keyless Smart Key Box system is meant to streamline the entire process, making it easier for all involved. Here’s how it works: a user’s smartphone will have codes that access the smart key box inside vehicles within the program, and when the phone gets close to the vehicle, the codes are verified. Thus far, the only Toyota model in which this system is functional is the Toyota Prius.
